8/11/2006 Yesterday at the Henley, Catey Dines (cox) and Mary Kate Frauenheim placed 4th in the Jr. B Womens 8
heat. Claire Gay was in the Jr. B Womens 4+ and placed 3rd in her heat with 2 to qualify. That was the
last race of the summer season for these girls. Great effort and enjoy the rest of summer.
7/20/2006 Last weekend was the St. Catherine's Invitational Regatta held on the Henley Course. The races
results for Dines, Finn, Gay, Frauenheim and Nugent.
Dines coxed the U17 Womens 4+, placed 2nd in their heat and 4th in the finals.
Finn rowed the U19 Womens 8+, placed 1st in their heat and 3rd in the finals.
Gay rowed the U19 Womens 8+, placed 4th in their heat, did not qualify for finals.
Mk rowed in the U17 Womens 8+, placed 3rd in their heat and 5th in the finals.
Lindsay rowed the U23 Womens Single, placed 7th. Final only.
For Lindsay it has been a great experience in the single. Being fearless is the key! She has developed
so well so fast! This was her first race and 'got the monkey of her back' finally. Look for her at Henley!
Great effort for all of WSRC last weekend.
see some new pix of the SCRC Invitational.
7/6/2006 A quick update on the summer crew season: Jr. B's girls from HAA - Catey Dines, Katie Finn, Mary Kate
Frauenheim and Claire Gay. Jr. C's - Lindsay Knab, Kristen Eagleton and Sally O'Rourke...my daughter
Emily Nugent is rowing too, so, say hi. Good luck to you all and we hope you have a great rowing season.
HENLEY GOLD! Lindsay Nugent has been rowing a single and is improving every practice.
Oh yeah, I forgot to show you all this pic of the CHS crew at the finish line to win the US National Ltwt.
Gold Medal. The vertical line to the far right of the pic is the finish line...CHS is lane 4 and St. Joes Prep
from Philadelphia is in lane 5. S.J. Prep has won this event for the past 5 year. The picture may look
screwed, that is because at the finish, they take some 20 pictures and re-assemble them to create the
image you see below. Its objective is to give the officials exact bow ball placement relative to the finish.
If you look close enough, you will see some rowers at the finish and others at the catch! The real weird
one is the CHS boat only has 7 rowers in it...I know this b/c Pat Kenney is the stoke...do the math!
"life is a game of inches and the margin for error is so small, I mean, one half a step too early or
or too late and you don't quite make it, one half second too slow or too fast and you don't quite catch it -
the inches we need are everywhere around us. In every minute, and in every second. On this team we
fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch,
because we know when we add up all those inches, THAT'S GOING TO MAKE THE * DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN WINNING AND LOSING..."

6/16/2006 Congratulations to Canisius High School for winning the US National Lightweight 8 GOLD. This is
the first for CHS and WS. It is an awesome victory by 2 tenths of a second...12 inches! They are the best
in the country, without question!
6/8/2006 A very good friend of mine has 6 kids and she suffers from MS (Multiple Sclerosis). M.S. is a
neurological disease in which the immune system is being attacked. This disease can take many
unpredictable courses from little disability to very aggressive forms which can leave a patient blind,
unable to walk, or sometimes even unable to swallow. There is no cure and no way of predicting the
path the disease will take.
I'm asking you for a favor, help by going me in this race around Delaware Park for a good cause.
I know you are all sick of me but I would love to see the entire team show up and participate. Go
to the site and read about it http://www.jogforthejake.org/ It is a perfect way to start your fathers day!
If you go please wear your HAA t-shirt.
6/8/2006 Outstanding job in our last 2k test and run for the season. Amanda topped out at an amazing 8:10 for
the varsity ltwt. Ashley, such "insane madness" with an 8:13 for the novice ltwt. Very pleased to see
many of you getting the benefits of winter training. Great job!
6/01/2006 On WEDNESDAY we will have or last 2k test. Sally, Amanda, Kristen, MK and Spears all crushed their old
and best 2k times. You ladies are very strong right now and you're going to do great! 6/7/06 5:30pm.
TRIVIA question...how well does shampoo rinse out of hair after it is left in to dry, like all day long?
For the answer you will need to ask Ashley!
5/25/2006 Crew practice for Friday morning has been cancelled. The following is the revised schedule for the
remainder of the year:
Saturday 5/27/2006Practice from 10-1pmSunday 5/28/2006Practice from 7-9:30am (all high practice boats)
Monday 5/29/2006 Fontana Regatta 7-3pm
Canadian Championship practice 5/30, 5/31,6/1 (selective crew!)
5:30am - 7:15am Varsity Ltwt 4 and Freshmen 4
This schedule may change for the these (2) crews
5/23/2006 The Fontana Regatta at Westside is this weekend!! The weather for this weekend and Monday are to be
perfect. This is essentially our last regatta with the exception of (2) boats going to the Canadian H.S.
Championships in St. Catherine's. To that end, Fontana is the last regatta we will be together and
it's a dedication to the leaving seniors. We hope all of the parents attend this regatta and enjoy it!
5/22/2006 Up in Welland this past weekend our Sr. 4 and Sr. Ltwt 4 had very good performances against our good
neighbors up north. In our lightweight heat we placed above our Westside competition! Both of our
boats had a good course and gave it their all. Down in Erie it was a heart breaker with the Frosh 8.
Leading the race with the last leg to go, we ended up 5th, because of another boat infringing on our
boat. Kayleigh did a great job coxing that boat and quickly protesting on the water and following thru with
a commanding and confident discussion with the officials on land. We are proud of that entire crew!
It was a scary outing for our Frosh 4 as they watched (2) Westside boats capsize next to them. The quick
minded Lindsay Knab got her crew to begin rowing and turned towards the wind to ensure her crews'
safety. Unfortunately the race was cancelled. Extremely proud of the novice group and these coxies are
fantastic!
5/21/2006 Congratulations to Lisa Knab, Catlin LoBuglio and Lindsay Nugent as our three seniors graduated!
We wish them best of luck as they move on to a new chapter in their lives.
5/18/2006 Practice was shifted from morning to this evening at 5:15pm. Boat loading IS DONE.
5/16/2006 A great effort from our entire crew at States this past weekend. The Frosh 4 did an outstanding job and
we look forward to many more winning races from them, Congratulations for medaling!
I will have information tonight on the WELLAND AND MERCYHURST REGATTA...no times have been
published on either site so stand by. For directions you can click the link (top right of this page).
Mr. McCrone gave me a stack of pictures last night from the JB regatta...states to follow. I will scan them
and put them up on the site ASAP.
5/10/2006 Thursday 5/11 at 5:15pm we are loading boats for the NYS regatta. All crews leaving for States must
help in de-rigging the boats and loading them onto trailers.
5/7/2006 The John Bennett Regatta report: Varsity Lightweights (Nugent, Amanda, Sullivan, Knab & Dines)
worked very hard in their time trail to earn a place in the finals. With some great effort and a strong
course, they finished in 2nd place. Novice 8 did a fantastic job in placing 2nd in their time trial and in
the finals taking 2nd place. A very strong showing for that crew to not allow any other Westside crew to
make the final race. Novice 4 (Miranda, Frauenheim, A.Prentiss, Eagleton and Knab), this crew did
everything right and placed 1st in its time trial. After the Novice 8 race, this crew had a 5 min rest and
was back on the water for a final race (Novice 4). It was valiant effort and they placed 2nd to a fine
Canadian team. We are very proud of the all of the HAA crews on the water today and especially the
crews making it to the finals. The weather cooperated to allow this event to move along nicely and
it really gave our team an opportunity to compete prior to States. Coaches are very proud of the level
of performance of these crews this weekend.
5/6/2006 Thanks to Caitlin Lobuglio and Lindsay Nugent for conducting our first Coxie Bootcamp that took place
on land. It was a discussion and sharing of coxie knowledge in preparation of racing. We will have
one more coxie camp on land and simulate a race in the tanks and listen to the coxies in action. We
plan on recording the races at states to continue our learning. I received good feedback from the
varsity coxies, "we got a lot of good information and we learned a lot." Thanks captains.
5/5/2006 There will be a coxie 'bootcamp' this Saturday from 10am-11am. All coxies are required to attend.
5/2/2006 The Buffalo News featured an article this morning on our very own Jr. 4 Crew team as they get
ready to race for their 3rd straight State Title. Best of luck girls!
